Community Projects

AIM has always been engaged in community projects from its early beginnings, among them have been collection of food items at its annual events for donation to food pantries. This was expanded in recent years till 2019 when COVID halted all activities. In addition, AIM took part in a mentoring summer camp organized by University of Milwaukee for at risk youth and then brought them to its annual events for many years.

It also advocated with other organizations in the appeal to keep Regina Bakala from being deported while seeking asylum from her home country. Funds were raised at the festival to support the legal fees. AIM has always been an advocate for immigration issues when called upon for collaboration and assistance.

AIM was very instrumental in the resettlement of Somali Refugees by partnering with a social service agency to offer childcare for children, parenting skills for the family and English as Second Language to help with their communication.

With COVID now behind us, AIM seeks to continue with its community projects and other activities that go to educate, enhance and support other efforts to provide a united community, while meeting the needs of others. It has already embarked on a project of preserving the history of the Milwaukee African Diaspora. We are already discovering some exciting aspects of the beginning of our journey here in Milwaukee. Many stories to share. Everyone has one, so join us at africansinmilwaukee@gmail.com to share.
